Armenian Soldier Killed in Azeri Firing

STEPANAKERT (Public Radio of Armenia) — Karabakh Defense Army Private Simon Chavrshyan was killed in a result of firing from the Azerbaijani side. An investigation of the incident to find out more details is under way.

According to Artakh’s Ministry of Defense, tensions were high at the line of contact between the armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan last night.

The rival used artillery weapons of different caliber as it fired more than 1,500 shots in the direction of the Armenian positions.

The Karabakh Defense Ministry offers its condolences to the families and friends of the soldier.

On 5 February President Bako Sahakian signed a decree posthumously awarding Chavrshyan with the “For Service in Battle” medal for bravery shown during the defense of the Artsakh state border.
