Nalbandian Visits Tbilisi to Discuss Armenian, Georgian Ties

TBILISI (Armenpress)— Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian – who arrived in Tbilisi on August 1 on an official visit – had a meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, reported the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

Welcoming Nalbandian, Margvelashvili noted that it is always pleasant to host high-ranking guests from friendly Armenia and discuss possibilities of even more developing the friendly neighboring relations.

Nalbandian conveyed the greetings and regards of Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian to the Georgian President and relayed the results of the Tbilisi meetings and discussion.

The sides discussed issues of expanding Armenian-Georgian cooperation and touched upon possibilities of regional cooperation.

Nalbandian presented the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk group to realize the agreements reached during the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg, which will allow to advance a peaceful solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Margvelashvili asked to convey his best regards and respects to Sarkisian.

The Armenian Minister also held a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Janelidze on Monday, reported the press service of the Armenian MFA.

Janelidze said Nalbandian’s visit to Georgia is a significant event which enables to continue the dialogue over issues of mutual interest.

Nalbandian expressed gratitude for the invitation and the warm reception and said Armenia attaches importance to the development of relations with Georgia in all sectors.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the Armenia-Georgia bilateral agenda. They underscored the importance of legal framework, including more than 80 agreements, giving an opportunity to develop the mutual cooperation in different sectors.

Nalbandian said that visits and productive cooperation between the two states should continue.

Issues related to holding regular consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Georgia, improving the legal framework, the cooperation in international structures, easing the transport facilitation, energy cooperation, cultural cooperation, and contacts at decentralized level were discussed.

They also talked about the works of the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia.

They highlighted the need of taking steps aimed at further developing the inter-parliamentary ties.

Armenian and Georgian FMs also discussed international and regional urgent issues.

Nalbandian presented to Janelidze efforts to move forward with the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

After the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers held a joint press conference.

Within the framework of the visit, Nalbandian laid a wreath at the Heroes’ Square in Tbilisi.
