Houry Gebeshian, Special Guest of ‘The Greatest Armenian Food Festival in New England’

The 2016 Rhode Island Armenian Festival presented by Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, will take place Nov. 12-13 at the beautiful Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.

For months, the women and men of the Sts. Vartanantz Church congregation, work tirelessly cooking and preparing all of the well-known Armenian favorites.

A special meet and greet with Houry Gebeshian—Armenia’s first female Olympian gymnast—will take place on Nov. 12, from 12-5 p.m.

All are welcome to enjoy delicious homemade Armenian delicacies including Armenian pastries, preserves, and native dishes featuring fresh flame grilled chicken, shish kebab,  kufta, and losh kebab dinners, complete with a fresh tossed salad and signature rice pilaf. For a lighter meal, shish kebab, losh kebab, and grilled marinated chicken sandwiches are also available.

For something a little different, atendees can try one a zesty falafel sandwich—”Veggie Burger”—made with a delicious seasoned ground chickpea mixture served on a fresh pita wrap with lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes.

Some of the other delicacies served at the festival include native Yalanchi (stuffed grape leaves), cheese and spinach boreg (pied), kuftah, and tourshee (pickles) and traditional Armenian pastries including baklava, bourma, choreg, katah, and the heavenly treat Khadayif.

The Country Store is also available for a variety of prepared foods to go, as well as a variety of homemade baked goods.

From late afternoon on, guests can enjoy traditional Armenian live music and dancing.  On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, enjoy a performance presented by the church’s children’s Armenian dance group.

Throughout the festival, guests can take a chance on some of the great prizes in the famous hourly raffles, and the main raffle for a chance of winning $1,500.00 and other cash prizes.  Also offered is a special raffle with $500.00 worth of lottery scratch tickets.

A balcony marketplace is also available, where guests will find many independent vendors with all types of gift items, arts and crafts, Armenian souvenirs, and more.  For a wider selection of Armenian books, videos, and music, guests can visit the Hairenik Bookstore located in the front lobby.
