STEPANAKERT, NKR (A.W.)—Armenian serviceman Albert Postolokyan (b. 1996) was fatally shot at his army unit on the northeastern direction (Martakert) of the Nagorno-Karabagh (Artsakh/NKR) Line of Contact (LoC) on the night of Dec. 7-8. Though the NKR Defense Ministry has announced that the details of Postolokyan’s death are still unclear, many news reports began surfacing on Dec. 8 that the serviceman had taken his own life.

Yerevan-based lragir.am published this photo of Armenian serviceman Albert Postolokyan. The Armenian Weekly could not confirm its authenticity.

A criminal investigation has since been initiated by the Defense Ministry. According to reports, Private Postolokyan—a grenadier assistant—threw a grenade at the entrance of the trench at 2:10 a.m. om Dec. 8, which resulted in another serviceman—Private Garnik Terteryan—sustaining shrapnel wounds. It is believed that Postolokyan died soon later from a self-inflicted gunshot wound from his own rifle.

Azerbaijani forces continued to violate the ceasefire regime on the NKR LoC on the night of Dec. 7-8, committing about 40 violations. According to a statement released by the NKR Defense Ministry, Azerbaijani forces fired over 500 shots from various automatic weapons and sniper rifles in the direction of Armenian military positions.
