BUENOS AIRES (Agencia Prensa Armenia)—The Commemorative Commission of the Armenian Genocide Centennial in Buenos Aires, which brings together community organizations of the Buenos Aires region, will hold an international conference entitled “Genocide and Human Rights: A Hundred Years of the Armenian Genocide” on August 20-22 at the University of Buenos Aires.
The opening panel will be held on Thursday August 20 and will include Judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights Eugenio Raul Zaffaroni, former Judge Leon Carlos Arslanian, former Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ricardo Gil Lavedra, Chairman of the General Audit Office Leandro Despouy and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires Monica Pinto.
On Friday 21, speakers will include Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas, Chairman of the National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism Pedro Mouratian, Undersecretary for Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the City of Buenos Aires Claudio Avruj, the Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Nora Cortiñas, member of Madres de Plaza de Mayo, and American historian and professor emeritus at the University of California Richard Hovannisian.
The conference will close on Saturday, August 22, with the President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars Daniel Feierstein, Professor Henry Theriault, of the University of Worcester, Massachusetts, and Professor at the University of San Andres and the National University of Lanus, Khatchik Der Ghougassian.
