GLENDALE — The Armenian American Medical Society (AAMS) is pleased to announce a donation of $10,000 to the Syrian Armenian Relief Fund (SARF). The funds will be used to provide medical assistance to Syrian-Armenians living in war-torn Syria. The donation will be presented to SARF by AAMS board members on Sunday, February 21, 2016, during the SARF Save a Life Telethon.

Syria has been ravaged by a civil war for the past five years, which has destroyed cities and towns and left residents displaced, without shelter, and lacking the most basic necessities. The Syrian Armenian Relief Fund provides humanitarian assistance for the essential needs of the Syrian-Armenian Community – food, water, and medical assistance.

The donation by the AAMS is aligned with its mission to actively improve the health and quality of life of the Armenian community in the Diaspora and Armenia. “The AAMS is delighted to be able to assist in providing for the healthcare needs of Syrian-Armenians,” said Raffi Tachdjian, MD, MPH, president of the AAMS. “The situation in Syria is dire and we want to help in whatever way we can, by offering financial support and our medical expertise. Providing aid to our community in times of need is a core tenet of our organization.”

The AAMS, with more than 600 members, is the largest Armenian medical society in the Diaspora. Our directory of health practitioners is a vital resource for patients seeking care in various health-related disciplines and specialties. Our mission to promote health services, education and professional growth.
