Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations Passes Away

YEREVAN (A.W.)—Armenia’s Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan passed away on Dec. 13 at the age of 55.

Yeritsyan was taken to Yerevan’s Nairi Medical Center and placed in intensive care on Monday evening. The hospital’s director Anatoly Gnuni said that the death was caused by a “long and serious illness,” reported RFE/RL’s Armenian service.

Armenian President Serge Sarkisian sent a letter to the family of Minister Yeritsyan, offering his condolences. In the letter, Sarkisian mentioned Yeritsyan’s contribution to the development of the police system in Armenia as well as his work towards the reconstruction and modernization of the Ministry.

Yeritsyan, who previously held senior positions in the police force, had been Minister of Emergency Situations since 2010. He would have turned 56 on Dec. 25.
