CHICAGO, Ill. (A.W)—The Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer (MLS) has signed Armenian national David Arshakyan. Arshakyan, a 21-year-old striker, began his professional career with the Armenian club team FC Mika in 2012 and went on to help his team win the 2012-13 Armenian Super Cup. In 2015, Arshakyan moved to Lithuanian club team FK Trakai, scoring 25 goals in 34 games with the squad last season.
“As we tracked David, we were impressed by his winning attitude and ability to score goals in a variety of different ways,” said Fire Nelson Rodriguez in a statement released by the team. “He has a very good soccer IQ, imagination and obvious size. David also expressed a keen desire to join our club in particular and to help us build a championship program,” Rodriguez added.
Arshakyan agreed to a two-year deal with club options for the third and fourth years. He began his international career on Armenia’s National under-19 team in 2014.
