WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J.—The Armenian Relief Society (ARS) of the Eastern United States (ARS Eastern USA) Board of Regional Directors hosted a fashion show on Oct. 6, which featured unique regional costumes of historic Armenia, at the Seasons catering hall in New Jersey.

Present at the event were ARS Central Executive Board (CEB) Chairperson Caroline Chamavonian, CEB member Silva Kouyoumdjian, ARS Eastern USA Regional Board Members and its executive director, ARS members representing several chapters, and over 275 guests.

After a lavish cocktail hour, guests were ushered into the main dining hall where they eagerly waited for the program to begin.

Sonia Bezdikian, ARS Eastern USA Board member and Mistress of Ceremonies, welcomed the guests and thanked the ARS members and attendees for their attendance at this event. She reminded that audience that the ARS has served the Armenian nation well for 106 years and will continue to do so for centuries to come.

ARS Eastern USA Chairperson Talin Daghlian welcomed all of the guests and asked everyone to stand in a moment of silence for all those lost in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh/NKR) and Syria. Daghlian then expressed her appreciation to the Fashion Show Committee members who worked with dedication in order to ensure that the evening’s event would be a success.

The fashion show began with the presentation of Kevork Shadoyan’s exclusive collection dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial called, “Reincarnation.” The costumes of the cities of historic Armenia such as Van, Sassoun, Zeytoun, and many more were exhibited. Armenian children wearing traditional Armenian costumes walked down the runway with pride as the onlookers applauded vigorously. The adult costumes were also shown, of which some were bold in colors, had stripes, belts, and striking head pieces. A very outstanding finale to this collection took place and everyone was excited about the display.

Kevork Shadoyan’s 2016-17 evening gowns from his Spring/Summer collection were then shown and the audience appeared to be in awe of the creativity, fabrics, beading, and designs that these gowns revealed. The gowns were one of a kind and many guests commented on how beautiful they were. Kevork Shadoyan appeared during the finale and the audience was ecstatic to meet him as noted by the thunderous applause.

Dinner was then served as guests enjoyed each other’s company. The evening included several flute interludes by Meghri Tutunjian. It was a very enjoyable evening for all and the ARS Eastern USA board gratefully acknowledges the support it received from all those who worked hard to make this a successful event and to all those who attended or supported this event through their donations.
