CLEVELAND, Ohio—On Nov. 14, the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) Cleveland “Artsakh” Chapter held a fundraiser to support the Armenian communities in Syria currently suffering from the atrocities of war. A total of $8,510 was raised during the event, which was held at St. Gregory of Narek Cultural Hall. Guests and organizers alike had an enjoyable time with great food and desserts, all while supporting a great cause.

Members of the Artsakh Chapter donated, cooked, and graciously served the food and desserts. Other members of the community helped with food and dessert donations, as well as with transportation needs and music. Of special mention, Edward Davidian worked hard to set up the hall and to organize and coordinate with the chapter. “Vartzgernit gadar.”

After spending some time socializing over “mezze” (appetizers), the event started with the singing of the Armenian National Anthem, “Mer Hairenik,” followed by the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Rose Paratto of the Artsakh Chapter conveyed the ARS’s mission and the terrible situation that Syrian Armenians are in. One young Armenian talent, Taleen Boman, then recited Vahan Tekeyan’s poem “Yegheghetzi Haygagan,” charming and delighting the guests.

Guest speaker Kevan Asadorian inspired many of those in attendance to donate generously. He spoke about the importance of supporting and helping this Armenian community, which has existed for centuries. Fr. Der Hratch Sargsyan of St. Gregory of Narek Church offered prayers for the Syrian Armenian,s and afterwards gave a speech that undoubtedly inspired the generosity in many donations. Paratto, Asadourian, and Fr. Sargsyan all urged and expressed the deep need to help the Armenian community in Syria, which has suffered for years with no end in sight.

The total collected figure was announced while the audience was enjoying dessert. The ARS organizers thanked the Armenian community of Cleveland for their great generosity and for helping them reach—and exceed—their goal.

May our Lord bless what we collected in this event and may it be of good help to many Armenian families in crisis, saving our Armenian schools, churches, and organizations in Syria during this very difficult time.
