LOS ANGELES—Tuesday’s California Primary Election results saw State Assembly candidate Ardashess “Ardy” Kassakhian and State Senate candidate Anthony Portantino advance to the November General Elections. Both candidates were endorsed by the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region.

Thousands of ballots are still to be counted in the California Primary elections, which could alter results in races that were determined to be “too close to call,” among them the race for the 24th Congressional district, in which Republican Katcho Achadjian received 27,545 votes (18.9%). This race is too close to call as Achadjian’s Republican opponent Justin Fareed has only a slight advantage over him.

Based on results reported by the California Secretary of State, Kassakhian secured his slot on the November ballot for the California State Assembly 43rd District race with 18,618 votes (24.4%) to his opponent Laura Friedman’s 24,372 votes (31.9%). In the weeks leading up to the June 7 Primary, Friedman and her supporters mounted a viscous negative campaign against Kassakhian, spending a reported $1 million-plus to smear Kassakhian.

In the California State Senate District 25 race Portantino came in second place with 43,195 votes (27.1%) to Mike Antonovich’s 64,114 votes (40.2%). Both men will face off in the November General Elections.

In the Los Angeles County Supervisors race for District 5, Ara Najarian received 33,836 votes (13.06%), which did not qualify him to move to the November ballot, according to results reported by the Los Angeles County Registrar.

Also advancing to the November General Elections is ANCA-WR-endorsed candidate for the US Senate, Rep. Loretta Sanchez who will face off with California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
