LOS ANGELES—Documentary filmmaker Peter Musurlian was nominated for a “Featured Documentary (over 25 minutes)” award by the Los Angeles Press Club for him film “Historic Armenia,” which first aired on Horizon Armenian Television in October 2014.
The 40-minute film is up against four diverse nominees, from KCET, MundoFOX, and The Hollywood Reporter, in the Feature Documentary, over 25 minutes, category. The awards ceremony is at the Downtown Los Angeles Biltmore on June 28, 2015

“Historic Armenia” follows a group of Armenian-American tourists, led by pioneering tour guide, Armen Aroyan, throughout Eastern Turkey, to visit cities, towns, and villages that were home to more than two million Armenians 100 years ago, before the Armenian Genocide.
Seen throughout the film, accompanying the tourists on their pilgrimage, is UCLA Professor Emeritus Richard Hovannisian, imparting his historical perspective.

Six months after its debut on Horizon, the documentary was shown several times, in April 2015, on KLCS-TV, the only PBS station headquartered in Los Angeles. With a reach into 16 million households, it was estimated 60,000 saw the film on KLCS.
In 2013, Musurlian won an Emmy Award for his documentary “Burbank’s African Sister City,” which aired on The Burbank Channel.
A USC journalism-school alumnus, Musurlian also has three master’s degrees, extensive U.S. Army overseas reporting experience, 14 RTNA Golden Mike Awards, and seven Los Angeles Area Emmy nominations.
Founded in May, 1989, Horizon Armenian Television is the leading broadcast source for news, information and coverage of critical issues for the Armenian-American community in Southern California. The channel’s programming is currently seen by households throughout the Southland on Channel 10.6 and on Charter Communication’s Channel 387 in Glendale, Burbank and La Crescenta.
The 57th SoCal Journalism Awards will be presented during a gala banquet on Sunday, June 28 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
