LITTLE ARMENIA — Rose and Alex Pilibos is in the running to be considered one of the most innovative schools and are counting on the community’s support to win $60,000 with the hopes to expand on their projects.

Earlier in the year, Pilibos entered the Follett Challenge, a program created by Follett to find and reward schools for their work applying technology, content and creativity in ways that engage students, foster literacy and promote critical thinking.

As part of the competition, Pilibos highlighted their unique program, Design Based Learning, by creating a short video. The program highlights the 21st Century tools of collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. The students focus on identifying problems, using resources, making logical connections, and implementing solutions. Aside from the acquisition of knowledge, the lower elementary is abuzz with pint-sized leaders who have a growing awareness of their impact on the larger community and the world.
