WASHINGTON, D.C. (Smithsonian)—The 2018 Smithsonian Folklife Festival has officially begun, featuring “Armenia: Creating Home,” a week-long exploration of Armenian culture, traditions and history. The festival is taking place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from June 27 to July 1 and from July 4 to 8. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the flavors and traditions of Armenia and Catalonia.
The “Armenia: Creating Home” program showcases master classes and demonstrations of Armenian script, stone carving, carpet weaving, food and wine, folk music, dance, and much more. The festival also features Armenian dance workshops and master classes, culminating in the colorful “Handes!” Armenian Dance Summit on July 7. Dance groups from Armenia, the United States and Canada will perform throughout the festival.
