YEREVAN (Armenpress)—The first group of Armenian athletes participating in the summer Olympic Games has departed for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, press service of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (ANOC) reported.
On July 25, the first group of the Armenian delegation –swimmers, weightlifters, and athletes – travelled to the Olympic Games on a Yerevan-Doha-Rio flight. Pashik Alaverdyan was leading the weightlifters’ team, Robert Emmiyan, the president of the Athletics Federation-the athletics team.
The second group of the Armenian athletes will depart for Rio the night of July 26. Hrachya Rostomyan Vice President of the ANOC will head the delegation.
For the first time since Armenia’s independence, 33 athletes will represent the country at the Olympic Games. From the 33, six will compete in the athletics events, as well as five boxers, three gymnasts, two swimmers, seven weightlifters, eight wrestlers, and a shooter and judoka representation.
