YEREVAN (Armenpress)— Armenia commends US State Department’s readiness to conduct international investigations of incidents occurring on Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan talked about this in a meeting held at the administrative complex of the Ministry of Defense referring to the proposal of 80 congressmen submitted to the US State Department. According to the proposal, technical sensor supervision devices should be installed on the contact line between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Ohanyan stated that any type of supervision mechanism will support the international investigation of border incidents.

“We hail the readiness of the relevant body of the country, which is one of the Minsk Group Co-chair countries, to have a commitment to contribute in creating trust building mechanisms and conducting international investigations. All of us, especially international specialized establishments, know how difficult it is to implement all that, as the contact line is constantly under the influence of violations, displacement of units, subversive groups and also skirmishes” Ohanyan said.

The US State Department has officially welcomed proposals by U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA), Ranking Democrat Eliot Engel (D-NY) and more than 80 of their colleagues aimed at de-escalation of the situation on Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line and waning of aggression.
