Late Ani Karamardian, member of the ARS Maro Chapter of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES—The members of the Los Angeles Maro Chapter of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) are proud to announce the 2016 recipients of the Ani Karamardian Scholarship. This award was initiated in 2014, to honor the memory of an ungerouhi who was a dedicated member of the ARS Maro chapter for 35 years and who remains an inspiration and source of strength to those who knew her. It is through this scholarship that the Maro members aim to keep Ani’s memory and legacy alive. It also serves as a testament to her commitment to education and to young Armenians in the community.
This year, two deserving graduates, Knar Baghdassarian of Armenian Mesrobian School and Arnia Majarian of Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School were bestowed $500 scholarships in Ani’s name. The two schools selected each hold special significance, as Ani graduated from Mesrobian (class of 1979) and her daughters graduated from Ferrahian (class of 2014) where Ani was an actively involved parent.

Knar was involved in HMEM and AYF, served as a coach, was a member of both the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, and was selected as Valedictorian of the class of 2016. She will be attending University of California, Irvine in the fall.
Arnia was a very actively involved student, performed meaningful community service, was a varsity volleyball player and served as Student Council Vice President. She will be attending Pepperdine University in the fall.
The ARS Maro chapter offers its congratulations to Knar and Arnia and wishes them much success as they pursue their goals and dreams.
