STEPANAKERT (Combined Sources)—More than 900 shots were fired towards Armenian frontier troops by the Azerbaijani Army on December 21 and 22 as the armed clashes continued at the line of contact. These violations occur just days after the meeting in Bern between Presidents Serzh Sarkisian and Ilham Aliyev.

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces applied TR-107 artillery rockets, 60mm, 82mm mortars, and AGS-17 grenade launchers in the northern and north-eastern direction of the line of contact.

The frontier troops of the Defense Army are in control of the situation and confidently perform their combat duty.

However on Monday, the Foreign Ministry of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic were hopeful that this conflict was moving in the right direction especially because mitigating the tension at the contact line and using mechanisms for investigating ceasefire violations were among the discussion between the presidents.

Karabakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ani Sargsyan elaborated by discussing that Karabakh remains positive because the main topic of the meeting in Bern revolved around the tensions along the line of contact. Sargsyan also added that Artsakh has always showed their support for the implementation of mechanisms that investigated ceasefire violations because it will reveal the real initiator of the escalation of tensions and will put an end to any type of speculations.

These implementations if acted upon would contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the region and will create a productive atmosphere for negotiations.

Unfortunately, the fact that even after the meeting Azerbaijan continues to violate the ceasefire regime comes to prove that Baku is not interested at all in the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
