Wednesday, August 12, 2015 was the first day of school for Vahan and Anoush Chamlian first grade students, who start a week early to acclimate to the transition from Kindergarten. This year’s opening ceremony coincided with the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the new cafeteria, which was renovated over the summer break thanks to the sponsorship of Mr. and Mrs. Eddy and Hasmig Demirdjian, in memory of their parents Khatchig Moughalian and Shavarsh Demirdjian.
The school community was honored to have Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, prelate of Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and donors of the cafeteria renovation project, Mr. & Mrs. Eddie & Hasmig Demirdjian, along with their son Aren, present at the ceremony.
After the Archbishop’s blessing and prayers, the ribbon to the renovated space was cut by the benefactors, Mr. & Mrs. Eddie and Hasmig Demirdjian, and the renovated, student centered space was revealed. Dr. Kargodorian, School Principal, welcomed the guests, thanked the benefactors for their generosity, reviewed the renovations that took place in the space and explained the meaning and concept behind each design on the mural, which decorates all four walls of the space. To conclude the ceremony, following the lead of Archbishop Mardirossian, Administration members, teachers, and each first grade student, dipped their hand in paint to create a beautiful handprint tree on one wall of the cafeteria.
