YEREVAN (Armenpress)—First Deputy Head of the RA Police, Lieutenant General Hunan Poghosyan alerted the Armenian people about the various types of disasters that were prevented in Nork-Marash as a result of the detected armed gang that were discovered on November 25. According to “Armenpress”, Deputy Police Chief talked about this during a press conference on December 14. “A group is neutralized, which had prepared particularly serious crimes,” Hunan Poghosyan told. In response to the observation that the particularly serious crime involved a robbery against high officials, the Police Deputy Chief mentioned: “Thieves would not accumulate a large quantity of ammunition”.
Referring public’s response to the incident, Hunan Poghosyan noted that people were skeptical about these dangers at first, but then realized that they were wrong.
Taking into account the presumption of innocence and the confidentiality of the investigation process of the case, Hunan Poghosyan did not want to provide details of the case’s process, but only noted that public measures are continuing to be taken and the body implementing preliminary investigation will realize the awareness in due time.
Armenia citizen, former resident of Yerevan, Artur Vardanyan residing abroad arrived in Armenia in 2015, formed and headed a criminal group. According to preliminary agreement, the group illegally acquired a large number of weapons and ammunition concealing it in a rented house in Nork district of Yerevan.
In joint searches with the Police on November 25, different rifles, pistols, grenade launchers, grenades, explosive materials and equipment, cartridges, and bullets were discovered. Artur Vardanyan and 9 members of the criminal group were discovered in the house during the searches. The criminals have been arrested.
A criminal case has been initiated in Investigative Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia in accordance with parts 1 and 2 of Article 223 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Preliminary investigation is being held.
