israelflagYEREVAN (ArmInfo)—Jerusalem will host a scientific forum dedicated to the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, announced Amos Goldberg, Holocaust Studies faculty at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, during a conference at the American University of Armenia.

He said that in April 2015 Jerusalem hosted a similar event dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial. It is the only contribution of Israel to the international recognition of that tragedy, he said. He expects an Armenian delegation including the best experts in Genocide Studies to also participate in the forum in June 2016.

He pointed out that Israel’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide at a state level is a complicated political process and Israeli scientists can take part in that process at the level of calls for recognition of that fact. In this light, the role of the scientists and teachers is to teach the truth about the Armenian Genocide to the students along with the truth about the Holocaust.

Goldberg said that Israel has not only failed to recognize the Armenian Genocide, but has also taken repeated steps to hamper the recognition of that fact by other countries. He stressed the need to do everything possible to tell the whole truth of real events of 1915 to everyone in Israel.

On April 24, 2015, Armenians worldwide commemorated the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey that claimed the lives of 1.5 million Armenians.
