PICO RIVERA—City of Pico Rivera Mayor Pro Tem Bob Archuleta met on Wednesday with the Mesrobian Associated Student Body (ASB) Council and Principal David Ghoogasian to discuss civic leadership and a proposal the ASB had to address concerns with the flow of traffic in the vicinity of the school. Members of the Mesrobian High School Student Council Cabinet are taking a leadership position to suggest improvements in the flow of traffic at a busy intersection near the Mesrobian School Grounds. Mr. Archuleta, who along with other members of the Pico Rivera City Council is always there for the school, was most willing and enthusiastic to help guide students through the process.

“Don’t wait too long to get involved,” said Councilmember Archuleta, who encouraged the students to work on creating a solution to the issue. “That’s why you all are here in your Student Council. It takes everybody.”

Many community members express how challenging it can be to navigate the Pine Street/Beverly Boulevard intersection. The ASB students believe we can help make a major improvement in the safety of the intersection for students, parents, and Pico Rivera residents alike.

In their discussion, Councilmember Archuleta underscored that Mesrobian School and the Armenian community of Pico Rivera add to the diverse vibrancy of the city. “When you have this beautiful school, Mesrobian, in Pico Rivera, it raises the stature of the entire city,” explained Councilmember Archuleta. “I get to tell folks Pico Rivera has an Armenian High School, an Armenian Middle School, an Armenian Grammar School, and an Armenian Pre-School,” he added smiling.

In addition to his work in the City of Pico Rivera, Mr. Archuleta is a Presidential Appointee of President Barack Obama as a member on the Board of Visitors to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Mayor Pro Tem Archuleta has agreed to meet with the Public Works Director and request a Traffic Control Signal Needs Study of the intersection of Pine Street and Beverly Boulevard. This type of study must be conducted in accordance with the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the state standard that governs the design and use of traffic control devices on all public roads in California.
Armenian Mesrobian School, established in 1965, is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has Ron and Goharik Gabriel Preschool (which serves students 2-5 years old), Elementary, Middle School and a college preparatory High School  on the same campus. A major convenience for parents who may have children at multiple ages, Mesrobian offers a unique perspective and opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to grow together, and for students to get the attention and nurturing they need to be successful in school and in life. The High School curriculum is certified to the University of California. Mesrobian’s Alumni Network and Mentorship Program connects students with five decades of alumni who have distinguished themselves in fields as diverse as education, science, business, medicine, music, law, dentistry, chiropractic, politics, art, marketing, engineering, veterinary medicine, and psychology.
