YEREVAN (ArmRadio)—The project aimed at modernizing the Meghri checkpoint at Iran’s border kicked off on Thursday, reported the Customs Service of Armenia.

The project’s aim is to optimize security, to preserve existing buildings, and to simplify trade; thus, reducing the checking time and clearance at the checkpoint.

“Modernization of the Meghri border crossing point is the continuation of the program of modernization of the northern checkpoints of Bagratashen, Gogavan and Bavra,” said Armen Sakapetyan, deputy chief of the State Revenue Committee.

The renovation of the checkpoint will boost the trade between Armenia and Iran, while development of an online data exchange will ease collaboration.
