YEREVAN (Armenpress)—“Any document on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not viable if Karabakh did not participate in its elaboration,” Foreign Minister of Artsakh, Karen Mirzoyan, told eadaily.com, answering the question of what position Artsakh holds on the “Madrid Principles.”

“The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic must participate in the negotiation process as a full-fledged party with its direct participation in the elaboration of the document to settle the conflict, starting from the discussion of ideas and approaches for the settlement to signing and implementation of the peaceful agreement. Therefore, any document elaborated without Karabakh’s participation is not viable,” said Mirzoyan.

The Foreign Minister said that international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) is one of the foreign policy priorities of Artsakh. “The people of Karabakh are determined to build and reinforce their statehood based on democratic norms,” he said, adding that they already have significant progress. He clarified that seven U.S. states and one Australian state, as well as the Basque parliament have adopted resolutions defending Karabakh’s right to self-determination.

“International recognition of Artsakh will put an end to Azerbaijan’s unceasing attempts to destroy the state and exterminate its people, and will ensure peace and security throughout the region,” Mirzoyan stated.
