GLENDALE — In an effort to promote the importance of literacy, Chamlian celebrated Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2nd, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Fourteen Chamlian alumni volunteered to be guest readers for 1st through 5th grade students. Some readers read Dr. Seuss books while others read well-known Armenian titles such as “Kach Nazar”, “Anahid”, and “Paregentan”. The first grade students wore their hand-made Dr. Seuss hats as they listened to Green Eggs and Ham and were later treated to a special breakfast of green eggs and ham to celebrate the special occasion.

At 9:40 a.m., with an enthusiastic greeting over the intercom, 6th-8th grade students were invited the “Drop Everything and Read” to honor Dr. Seuss and celebrate reading. 6th – 8th grade students were also asked to bring a previously owned book to participate in a “book swap”, with their fellow classmates.

We extend our appreciation to our guest readers and the entire Chamlian family for making Read Across America Day a success!
