STEPANAKERT—Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recently visited Arsen Baghdasaryan, an Armenian soldier who was detained by Azerbaijani troops on December 26, 2014 for crossing the border of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic.

In 2015, an Azerbaijani court sentenced Baghdasaryan to 15 years imprisonment, with charges of “making sabotage operations.”

Prior to Baghdasarya’s arrest, the Azerbaijani side reported that the Artsakh Defense Ministry made a sabotage attempt in the direction of Aghdam, during which Arsen Baghdasaryan was arrested.

The ICRC visits detainees, per standard procedure, to monitor their treatment and conditions, and to help ensure they are in contact with their families, said the head of the Communication Department at ICRC in Karabakh Eteri Musaelyan.
