YEREVAN(Armenpress) — Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Moscow Kremlin on March 10.
Putin called for the meeting between the two in order to discuss the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and to discuss the challenges that exist within the region. According to TASS News, Putin described the relations between the two countries as a “strategic partnership.”
“Our relations are developing successfully. Of course, there are problems of an objective nature,” the head of the Russian state said.
He added that the economic cooperation is deepening between the two states. “Overall, we are satisfied with how we have built a base of our relations. I have no doubt, based on our combined solutions during previous years, we will deepen our collaboration also in this direction,” the Russian president said.
Putin recalled that this year Armenia is presiding in the CSTO. He added how essential the CSTO is since it is responsible for regional security and the fight against terrorism and organized crime. Putin stated that he plans to talk to Sarkisian also as a head of the CSTO regarding various issues that pertain to the region.
Putin also brought up the subject of cooperation in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
Sarkisian, in turn, stated Armenia’s support to Russia’s policy in Syria. “Armenia continues to assist Russia on issues relating to Syria,” Sarkisian said during the meeting.
Sarkisian added that the agreement to stop military actions in Syria could become the key to the political settlement of the mentioned issue.
