GENEVA (Armenian Jewellers Foundation)—The Armenian Jewellers Foundation has announced new study grants for Syrian-Armenian expatriates. AJF will support 25 applicants enrolled in Gemology 1, 2 and 3 at the École de gemmologie de Montréal, one of the prime jewelry academies offering in-depth learning in diamonds and other gems.
Furthermore, for the first time AJF, in collaboration with the mainstream Canadian Jewellers Association, will provide scholarships to applicants enrolled in CJA’s Jewellery Educational Training System (JETS). This unique distant learning program awards successful students the Graduate Jeweller CJAGJ® designation, the first step toward a career in jeweler.
Applicants must be recent Syrian-Armenian expatriates. A recommendation letter (or references) is required along with a signed application. Teaching and course materials are in English or French. Therefore, basic knowledge of either language is a key requirement.
Registration in the JETS program should be made on-line citing the AJF scholarships program. Instead, application forms for the EGM courses may be obtained through Hay Doun, AGBU and other community organizations.

The AJF scholarships program has allocated 56 grants to-date. Thanks to a collaboration agreement with the Armenian Gemological Laboratory and Academy in Yerevan, Armenians from diverse communities continue to participate in the full-time intensive Diamond Grading diploma program.
The pilot Canadian initiative was launched in fall 2015. It aims to support integration and vocational training for recent Syrian Armenian immigrants in Canada. Fleeing war and destruction in Syria, thousands of expatriates sought refuge in Armenia and elsewhere including many who resettled in Canada. Currently, the program in Canada is supported by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), the Birks Family Foundation (BFF) and Birks Group Inc. (Birks).
The Armenian Jewellers Foundation was established in 2013 to advance the heritage of Armenians in jewelry. AJF’s mission is to undertake historical research, document present-day success-stories and ensure the transfer of knowledge to the new generation. This scholarship program promotes new capacity in the jewelry and diamond manufacturing sector both in Armenia and the Diaspora.
