Stop the Demolition of Camp Armen

Urge Congress to Call for Swift US Action to Halt Turkey's Destruction of Istanbul-Area Youth Camp Owned by the Armenian Protestant Church

Share this:

Camp Armen, which served for decades as an Armenian youth camp, was illegally seized by the Turkish government during the 1980s from the Gedikpasha Armenian Protestant Church.

Over the past week, after decades of neglect, Turkish officials authorized its outright destruction.  Bulldozers and tractors demolished parts of the camp, but a local protest organized by local Armenians succeeded in at least temporarily halting the destruction.

This delay and the media attention it has sparked within Turkey itself provide a short window for U.S. leadership in demanding that the Turkish government not destroy this center of Armenian cultural and religious identity in Turkey.
