ARF Parliamentary Faction Secretary and ARF Supreme Body of Armenia Member Aghvan Vardanyan Reacts to PM Abrahamyan’s Resignation

YEREVAN (A.W.)—“There will be systematic changes and new rules in the game,” Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Parliamentary Faction secretary and ARF Supreme Body of Armenia member Aghvan Vardanyan told reporters on Sept. 8, following the resignation of Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

According to Vardanyan, the government of national accord, which President Sege Sarkisian proposed in August, would come to fruition after the upcoming parliamentary elections.  While speaking to reporters, Vardanyan expressed hope that there would not be an absolute majority of political power, and that important government decisions and solutions to problems would be made through discussions and proper debates after the parliamentary system of government is implemented.

Vardanyan said that Armenia had entered a new stage of foreign and domestic politics in terms of the Nagorno-Karabagh (Artsakh/NKR) conflict and internal economic and social uncertainty. “We have reached the limit and it will be impossible to endure without the support and trust of the people, without making real economic and social changes, and without the establishment of real justice,” Vardanyan said, adding, “I believe that the consciousness for quality change exists. We need a new type of government, and I believe we are taking the first steps.”
