The Whittier Public Library
WHITTIER – Whittier Public Library has chosen Orhan’s Inheritance, a dramatic novel set against the backdrop of the turbulent history of the Turks and Armenians in the early 20th century, as the focus for its annual One Book, One City program: “Whittier Reads.” Every April the Library, along with the Whittier Public Library Foundation, presents a series of programs centered on its chosen book.
The series will lead with a presentation by Dr. Richard Hovannisian, “How Should We Understand Orhan’s Inheritance?” Dr. Hovannisian, Professor Emeritus, UCLA, and advisor and contributor to the USC Shoah Foundation’s IWitness Collection, is a noted scholar of Armenian history. He will speak at Whittier Central Library on Wednesday, April 4, at 6:30.
The author of Orhan’s Inheritance, Aline Ohanesian, will appear at Central Library on Saturday, April 14, when she will be interviewed by David Ulin, author, editor, and book critic.
Sedda Antekelian and Manuk Avedikyan of the USC Shoah Foundation IWitness program will present a talk on Wednesday, April 25, at Whittwood Branch Library entitled Surviving Silence: Armenian Voices at the USC Shoah.
The series will close on Wednesday, April 27, with a Music and Dance performance by the Greg Hosharian Trio and Ara Melkonian Dance Company.
