GLENDALE, CA – California Armenians for Jerry Brown, in partnership with the Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR), today concluded its successful voter registration and education drive by registering over 500 of their neighbors, friends, and family members throughout the state.
“We have put an emphasis on registering new voters and getting out the vote because it’s absolutely important that Armenian Americans cast their ballots for Jerry Brown. He has a proven record of supporting issues important to our community over the course of 40 years,” said Berdj Karapetian, Chairman of California Armenians for Jerry Brown.
The voter registration drive ended on the steps of Glendale City Hall on the deadline to register to vote. Volunteers spent the day visiting senior centers and provided transportation to voter registration sites at city halls throughout Los Angeles County. In recent weeks, the group organized voter registration booths at church services, community events, and on college campuses. California Armenians for Jerry Brown also set out to make it easier to vote for the elderly and disabled by encouraging families to register to vote by mail.
“The Armenian American community in California is clearly enthusiastic about participating in the democratic process by casting their votes this November. People were eager to register everywhere we went”, said Armine Sargsyan, a volunteer with California Armenians for Jerry Brown.
California Armenians for Jerry Brown is an unprecedented statewide effort to get out the vote and elect Jerry Brown as the next Governor of California. This grassroots movement has already tapped into volunteers in the Golden State who have reached out to their neighbors through coordinated canvassing and phone-banking to advocate on behalf of Jerry Brown.
The ANCA-WR is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
