LOS ANGELES, CA— The Armenian National Committee of America–Western Region (ANCA-WR) endorsed candidates swept the elections in California statewide, Congressional, State Senate, and State Assembly races. The ANCA-WR welcomes the election of proven supporters of the Armenian community: Jerry Brown as California Governor and Barbara Boxer to the U.S. Senate.
“We are very pleased that 99% of our longtime supporters of Armenian issues won yesterday, especially Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer” said Aida Dimejian, Chair of the ANCA-WR Board of Directors. “Their victories are a testament to the unprecedented voter education and get-out-the-vote effort implemented by ANCA-WR activists across the state.”
In the months leading up to the elections, the ANCA-WR launched a multi-pronged approach to galvanize Armenian American voters. The ANCA-WR was on TV, in print, and on the internet advocating on behalf of its endorsed candidates. It launched tens of thousands of phone calls and targeted emails to get-out-the-vote for endorsed candidates in California and throughout the western region states. Most importantly, ANCA chapters and activists were on the ground; volunteering with campaigns, making phone calls and walking precincts.
The election results are evidence of the ever growing role Armenian Americans play in California politics and governance. All but one candidate for California State Senate and State Assembly, endorsed by the ANCA-WR, won their election. All but one endorsed candidate for California statewide office won their election. All but one endorsed candidate for Congress has won their election.
Partnering with Armenians for Barbara Boxer and Armenians for Jerry Brown, the ANCA-WR was instrumental in solidifying Armenian American support for both candidates. Our results show that Armenians Americans came out in strong numbers to vote for Boxer, Brown, and the other CA statewide candidates.
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.
