Baton Rouge, LA – Members of the Armenian community and the Armenian National Committee of Louisiana met with Representative Garret Graves (R-LA (06)) during August recess. The delegation included ANC of Louisiana Chair Tamar Gregorian, as well as members of the Armenian American community of Baton Rouge Vasken Kaltakdjian and Niree Kaltakdjian.
The team of activists discussed the legislative priorities of the Armenian American community of Baton Rouge with Representative Graves. They encouraged him to co-sponsor the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.296), the Artsakh Travel and Communication Act (H.Res.190) and H.Res.452, which aims to improve relations between the U.S. and Armenia.
As a result of the meeting, Representative Graves joined the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues.
“On behalf of the ANC of Louisiana, I want to thank the Congressman for really listening to our concerns and promising to look into the legislation. It was truly an engaging meeting and one that we feel will be the beginning of a burgeoning relationship,” said Gregorian.
