SHERMAN OAKS, CA–An impressive number of Armenian-Americans gathered in Los Angeles on March 29, to honor and raise campaign funds for a great friend of the Armenian Cause, Representative Brad Sherman. The event, which was sponsored by the San Fernando Valley chapter of the Armenian National Committee and the ANC-Political Action Committee, was held at the Alcazar Restaurant in Sherman Oaks.
“We are pleased to have hosted this fundraiser for Representative Sherman,” explained San Fernando Valley ANC representative Keri Terterian. “His record on issues of concern to Armenian-American voters in the Valley has been – in one word – exceptional.”
“The San Fernando Valley ANC encourages Armenian-American voters to support public officials like Representative Sherman,” Terterian commented. “We need to stand by all our friends in Congress by giving them our votes and by giving them the resources they need to win re-election. In this regard, I want to thank all those Armenian-Americans who made our event for Representative Sherman an outstanding success,” he added.
Representative Sherman, who serves on the powerful House International Relations Committee, has been a longstanding and active member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenians Issues. He has been a staunch supporter of all Congressional initiatives to bring world attention to the Armenian Genocide. He has been a leader in defending Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which once prohibited direct U.S. Government aid to Azerbaijan. And also of note, Representative Sherman helped plan and direct the successful effort to begin direct U.S. aid to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Representative Sherman’s 24th Congressional District includes parts of Ventura County and the western portion of the San Fernando Valley. Prior to his election to the U.S. Congress, Brad Sherman was a member of California’s State Board of Equalization from 1990 to 1995.
