Watertown, MA – This #GivingTuesday, the Armenian National Committee of American Eastern Region will participate in the global day of giving and is asking supporters to GoHye by making a pledge of $19.18/month at gohye.org to help the ANCA-ER sustain and expand its activities.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to reflect on all they have, to collaborate and to give back.
The GoHye Campaign, an initiative of ANCA Eastern Region, was established in 2016 in an effort to sustain and expand its activities. As Armenian Americans continue to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia, the ANCA-ER urges its supporters to pledge to GoHye and make a tax-deductible donation in the symbolic amount of $19.18/per month.
These donations will help the ANCA Eastern Region to work on behalf of our brethren living in Armenia who are struggling to provide for their families due to the unilateral economic blockades imposed by Turkey and Azerbaijan, to assist the Syrian-Armenians who have been displaced from their Christian communities and to fight for Artsakh’s independence and right to self-determination and peaceful borders. Your contribution will also help to empower our local chapters to continue to work to secure local support for issues facing Armenian Americans including advocating for truth and justice for the Armenian Genocide and genocide education in our public schools. And, through your generous support, you will help to prepare the next generation of activists through our internship programs in Washington, DC.
“The idea behind GoHye is to create a more sustainable funding model and encourage every level of donor to participate in the giving process. We are encouraged by the number of current participants in the GoHye program and have every expectation of exceeding our goal of obtaining 27 new GoHye pledges on Giving Tuesday,” said Steve Mesrobian, ANCA-ER Board Chairman.
Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
“We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and Executive Director of 92Y. “As we prepare for November 27, we’re energized and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal.”
