WARWICK, RHODE ISLAND MAYOR SCOTT AVEDISIAN TO EMCEE ANCA EASTERN REGION FOURTH ANNUAL BANQUET

November 7, 2010

New York, NY- The Armenian National Committee of America, Eastern Region (ANCA ER) announced plans to hold its fourth annual banquet on December 4, 2010 at Warwick, Rhode Island’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, with master of ceremonies, Armenian-American Mayor Scott Avedisian of Warwick, Rhode Island.

“We are proud to have one of our own, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, host our first banquet that will be held outside New York City,” commented ANCA ER Chairman Steve Mesrobian. “He is a dynamic and energetic community leader who has supported the efforts of the ANCA for many years. We look forward to his participation as master of ceremonies and to his ongoing representation of our community on the political scene.”

Born in Rhode Island, Avedisian is the great-grandson of Armenian Genocide survivors. On Tuesday, November 2, Avedisian easily won his seventh successive term as Mayor of Warwick garnering more than 80 percent of the vote. During his tenure as mayor of Rhode Island’s second largest city, he has been a champion of human services reform, environmental protection, children’s rights and community service.

“I am honored to emcee this year’s banquet,” said Avedisian. “I have drawn much strength from my Armenian heritage and from the support provided by the Armenian-American community. I look forward to this event that highlights the strength of Armenian-American advocacy under the leadership of the ANCA.”

The evening will begin with a silent auction and cocktail reception at 6:30 pm, followed by dinner and awards program at 8 pm. Honorees to receive the ANCA ER Freedom Award and the Vahan Cardashian Award will be announced shortly.

Last year, more than 300 supporters attended the third annual banquet held at Espace in New York City, and the ANCA ER is excited to be in the planning phase of what is expected to be another successful event.
