NATIONWIDE POSTCARD DRIVE GAINING MOMENTUM

ANCAs mobilize grassroots campaign calling for President Bush to honor campaign pledge

February 14, 2001

WATERTOWN, MA – Hundreds of thousands of postcards have been distributed nationwide to Armenian Americans who are calling on President George W. Bush to honor his campaign pledge to “ensure that our nation properly recognizes” the Armenian Genocide.

Local chapters of the Armenian National Committee of America are mobilizing Armenian Americans to call on President Bush to honor his campaign pledge. ANCs have distributed postcards at local churches, various community events, and via mailings. The signed postcards are being sent to President Bush calling on him to honor his commitment “by clearly and unambiguously characterizing the Armenian Genocide as a genocide” in his April 24th statement.

During his presidential campaign, George W. Bush stated that
“The Armenians were subjected to a genocidal campaign that defies comprehension and commands all decent people to remember and acknowledge the facts and lessons of an awful crime in a century of bloody crimes against humanity. If elected President, I would ensure that our nation properly recognizes the tragic suffering of the Armenian people.” (February 19, 2000)

The postcard campaign will continue until March 15, 2001. Postcards are available through local branches of the ANCA or by contacting:
